In partnership with United Nations and with the knowledge support of UNIC Dhaka, UN Youth and Students Association Bangladesh (UNYSAB) organized the tenth edition of the oldest and most prestigious National MUN in Bangladesh – BANMUN 2018 from 20 to 22 September at Daffodil International University auditorium. The theme of BANMUN 2018 was “Ensuring Quality Education for Sustainable Future and Global Citizenship”. The theme was chosen considering the youth as a change agent in achieving SDGs. In the opening ceremony, UNDP Operations Manager Ms. Sonia Mehzabeen, on behalf of UN Resident Coordinator Mia Seppo, spoke as a special guest while Treasurer of Daffodil Int’l University spoke as a guest of honor. In her speech, Ms. Mehzabeen focused on quality education and youth leadership skills. In the closing ceremony, among others the panellists were Kazi Ali Reza, CEO, Centre for Ethics Education CEE) in Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology, M. Moniruzzaman, National Information Officer of UNIC Dhaka, Dr Syed Shaikh Imtiaz, UNYSAB Trustee Chair and Associate Professor, Dept. of Women and Gender Studies, DU, UNYSAB President Mamun Mia, Prof Dr Farhana Helal Mehtab, Associate Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science. The speakers highlighted the potential of the young population and their contribution to society. There were eleven committees in BANMUN 2018 and a total of 300 delegates from different schools and colleges took part in the conference. UNIC provided UN educational and promotional materials to all delegates. UNIC NIO spoke on the importance of MUN to enhance leadership quality and to develop communication skills.
Through this event, UNYSAB wanted to raise consciousness among the school and college-going students and inspire them to take a role in creating a better future. BANMUN-2018 was constituted by 8 committees with excellent National and International Executive Boards. It had 250 delegates from different institutions of Bangladesh and also encouraged the youth to come forward with their opinions while working together, exercise diplomacy and negotiation skills.
After Spending the hectic times of the Committee session, BANMUN 2018 organised many Social events and Gala Dinner as refreshments from day-long sessions. At the concluding session of this conference, Kazi Ali Reza – Former National Information Officer of the United Nations Information Center in Dhaka, Farhana Helal Mahtab – Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Daffodil International University, Mohammad Moniruzzaman – National Information Officer of the United Nations Information Center and Syed Sheikh Imtiaz – the Founding President, Honorable Chairperson and Trustee of UNYSAB and Mohammad Mamun Mia – Secretary-General of BANMUN2018 were present there.
